“The Constitution of India”

In the year of 1949, After the independence the newly formed government wants to create a rule book which constitutes the law of the state applicable for all the citizens of India. This puts the landmark for great democratic nation whose main agenda is to rule the people of India by the people of India in the name of Republic. This was adopted by the government of India and all its citizen on 26th January 1950 which we still celebrate a Republic day of India.

All other factual data is available all over the internet like when what who about the constitution of India and people will read about it for general knowledge. But my main intention for this series of blog is to understand what is inside the constitution of India and what it offers to its citizens to upheld their rights which usually bureaucrats or people who aspire to be bureaucrats will only tend to know. But when it comes to common man this is not the same and I could not able to find the information freely available in simple words. Thus comes this blog which I believe will provide some light on what is inside and show the common man what all his rights and responsibilities which every citizen in India abides to.

Ok Lets go in.

First and foremost to understand in the constitution is the PREAMBLE which is like introduction or context of the constitution and what it is main idea.Every nation who has a central law book will has this preamble declared which is like a promise of what it stands for. In America, You would have heard or read about declaration of Independence which is same like the preamble for constitution of India.

Every word in preamble is very important and infuse a greater value to the lives of citizens which resolve to adopt, enact and give theirselves this constitution.

Lets break this preamble word by word to understand its importance in simple words.
The purpose of constitution of India is to make India as sovereign, socialist, secular,Democratic and republic.

SOVEREIGN

Meaning – Possessing Supreme or ultimate Power.

Every country which constitutes itself as sovereign has the complete power to create and adopt any kind of law by itself without any intervention or control by external power or country. This means the government governing the country and its citizens has the power to take any decision or law to enact or order inside its boundary.

SOCIALIST

Meaning – Adhering to or based on the principles of socialism.

The importance of practicing of socialism by a country or by the government to provide social equality to its citizens in all means.Mainly,Every item produced/natural resources inside its land shall be equally shared to its society without any indifferences like status, color, religion etc. This creates a equal importance to all its citizens by the constitution itself. The rule book of governance.

SECULAR

Meaning – The state of being unrelated or neutral in regards to religion.

For a country like India which is united states of different tribes, culturally different who follows different religious practices.By adding this word secular in constitution will make the government not taking side on any religious portion and protect the citizens to practice any religion. The constitution or law shall not discriminate the rights of citizens in the ground of religion.

DEMOCRATIC

Meaning – Supporting democracy and its principles.

Democracy is giving the power to its citizens to elect their own government and its representatives who will reside the power to make amend constitution or enact legislation which will be used to govern its citizens. This makes the governing body as a public organisation whose role is to uphold the power of people as master of itself and install a public service in all government institutions and practice according to constitution.

REPUBLIC

Meaning – State in which supreme power is with the people and its elected representatives.

Republic is most the same as democratic practice in which th country will not have a single ruler or supreme power. This enact a greater importance in process of election which gives the supreme power to its citizens for electing their own representatives to represent them in the house of parliment in which the constitution or legislation is apendend based on the need of the hour and raise concerns or protect rights if any act of non compliance as per the constitution itself.

For common man in India, these words are the lifeline in protecting him/herself from the oppresion or domination over him and fight with every institutions if these values are not honored. Practically, the government institution should make sure these values are passed down the line until the last goverment servant made aware about it.

Even these days, these values are not known to most of the public service officers and not raise their voices when this values are violated by any act by the government becasue countries citizens may not be able to fight with this big system which is not eventually his job or role.
