Because the world sees the same. Yes, you heard me right. During last women’s day, everyone talks and salutes the women in their life and around the world by creating a template for them. A women has to be like the way the world expects her to be. Kind, Courageous, motherly, soft spoken etc.. these are the adjectives women has to carry to fit into the narrative of women’s day wish.
Likewise, there are narratives which are used to describe men, and these are followed from the days human beings are created and gender was formed. At least the description of women has evolved overtime due to lot of forward thinking to bring the gender equality and other progress for women. But for men there is no such change or possibility of being different than the world expects or want to be.
Recently, the kind of attention given to this alpha male kind of characters in movies, games and other visual centric medias created a false narrative to both men and women which increases the expectation and need to be that kind of man in every aspect of day-to-day life. Present day youngsters are the real victims of this kind of portrayal and wants to relive those characters in real life. Most of the times, it becomes a nuisance or concerns to the safety of the society.
Likewise, Women especially newly married or to be married are expecting their husbands or their would be’s to care or carry them the same way an alpha male performed in the reel life especially these social media platforms like Instagram or Youtube and its influencers are main source for this expectations.
Now let’s talk why all men are the same, being in a real life but want to meet the expectation from the reel life was a constant pressure he has to go through to maintain the stature otherwise his close circle itself will call him with names of his dislike. Every day the need to balance his personal and professional commitments are a very tiring affair.
This makes the men to be monotonous and be in same box of emotions always despite of his environment.
Even if he wants to emote differently due his daily events, the space for it is really less sometimes it does not even exist in few families. Men can’t be vulnerable, cool headed, passion driven and selfish. These are already not considered as traits of good men.
As a society, if we are trying to respect and create a space to be and accept all kind of traits of women then likewise men also to be given the same space to live in his number, genre and wish without need for the validation when he can also be a best husband, Father and whatever roles he lives in. Finally, Men is also a human being not an emotion less machine or creature.
